Chile, Here we come!!! Arica, Chile

After recoverying in the White City, know as Arequipa, Peru for a few days, we decided that we had done what we wanted to do in Peru. We saw the frozen mummy girl named ¨Juanita¨who was found at the top of a volcano- sacrificing to the gods for more rain and all- and that completed our Peruvian tour. So today, we crossed the boarder into Chile. We piled into an old taxi with 3 other folks and off we went to the boarder patrol. Mike lost his Immigration card in the Amazon River at the first end of the trip and with sweat beading from his brow, he was able to stare down the boarder patrolman to let him across the boarder. Ok, so he had to pay 8 Soles (or just over $2) to get a new one-same thing.

So now we are in a Chilean beach town called Arica at a hostel owned by a lovely New Zealand family. The folks here speak hella fast Spanish, and though we have improved a lot speaking with Peruivians, Chileans will be a whole different challenge! So wish us luck!

We will hang by the beach for a bit then meet some seals and sea lions tomorrow before we get on the road to Iquique, another beach town about 5 hrs south. Man, it feels good to be at sea level! Today, we climbed some stairs and I didn´t feel like I was going to keal over. It was awesome!

  3. Most of our travel is done by bus to get around the country. But within the city it´s all taxis unless they have a good bus network (which usually isn´t the case!).

And Alpaca is delicious! Much better than the guinea pig we ate, called Cuy.
