Today we rode into town, got our $2.50 driver’s license, and Wendy had the privilege of observing an elementary school and talking to some of the teachers. She was delighted to get a glimpse into another school system. In the Cook Islands, uniforms are mandatory, but footwear is optional. I love it! We had lunch at an organic garden called Tauono’s where we had our Thanksgiving meal #1. We had breadfruit lasagna, chicken schnitzel, stuffed chicken with pineapple stuffing, freshly cut marlin, taro root bread and coconut cake. Delicious! We were also entertained by the chef’s husband who was also serving us the meal. She could be a world class chef in any city if she wanted to.
That night, we went to island night, which is known for three things: An abundance of local food, wonderful music and singers, and FIRE DANCERS! These guys knew how to spin some torches! They stacked 3 high without ever stopping spinning the torches and wow, they were fast. The female dancers were good, and all but one of the male dancers seemed to know what they were doing, but it was the fire dancers that blew them away!
