Today we went to the Fushimi Inari Shrine, home of 10,000 Toriis, and thus the mecca for all Rakkasans. It was truely a must-do destination for Mike and me. It was literally a mountain full of toriis and fox statues. I mean a lot of toriis. Oh, and lots of ravens. We had so much fun crossing under toriis in shady woods, hiking up trails that were so far away no one else was there, taking pictures, and essentially breathing in all that was torii. And I'll say it; RAKKASAN! (http://www.wadaman-s.com/English/08fushimiE.html for some info about the place)
After getting Rakkasaned out, we walked down some traditional Japanese streets and came upon a chopstick store! It was filled with about a kajillion different types of chopsticks. It took us forever, but we both finally decided on our own personal pair of chopsticks (to include chopsticks holders) and then got a fun set that had pictures of sumo wrestlers for guests. A saying in Japan goes "if you want chopsticks, go to a chopstick store." And we did just that!
That night we went out to a "380" Resturant, which means that everything in the resturant is 380 yen, or about $4. We would have never found this place if we hadn't asked a local. It was on the 5th floor of a tall building next to the Haagendaz Ice Cream shop, not, definately not near the Baskin Robbins Ice Cream shop. We were then led to a small alcove that had just our table and a view of the street. We delighted in trying new foods while trying to use proper Japanese manners. We left not stuffed but excited from all the great experiences of the day!
