Nijo Castle and Flea Market at the Toji Temple, Kyoto, Honshu

So can I just tell you that we have gotten the transportation system down in Kyoto. We especially like the buses because you get a tour of the city as well! Big win! Too bad we are leaving tomorrow! Today, we visited the Nijo Castle, a UNESCO Site, which is surrounded by two moats and full of beautiful gardens. We actually had some of the best bird-watching here in the center of the city! They had some wicked cool ducks called the spotbill duck. Theses temples/castles/shrines are all so calming. There is just so much depth to the grounds. I just love seeing the same scene change into a completely different view by walking just a few steps.

We have have been on the lookout for a tea set and some good cheap food. So of course we decided to go the flea market at the Toji Temple. It has a five story pagoda right in the center of it. No tea set, but we found the second! This place was anything but serene like the other places, but it was still fun!. On the way out there, the bus was packed, and we weren't sure why until we got to the Tijo Temple. Just about every senior citizen in Kyoto poured out of that bus. Besides the senior citizens, we also found probably the coolest thing in all of Japan... a little dog wearing a ninja suit! He even had a little sword!
