Ko Lanta

While on the boat, a guy convinced us that his bungalows were nice, cheap, clean, next to the beach, and included a free ride… so we stayed there and it was rather nice. Some people really aren’t trying to scam you!
That day, we walked down the beach that seemed to go on forever. There were some island dogs, but they weren’t friendly like the Cook Island dogs. They weren’t mean or anything, they were just more interested in playing with other dogs than humans. They tended to pack up a bit. Like Koh Samui, it looked a bit dangerous to bodysurf (with a big drop right next to the shore), but it made for some nice looking waves. The beach was full of island style restaurants with tables, chairs, and lounges right on the sand. So we stopped at one and played cards while watching the sunset. Not too bad. Now they have fire dancers here, but it seems like we visited the island in the off season. There was even a Brit who was working as a fire dancer—it just wasn’t right.
The next day, we rented a motor-scooter and toured around the island. We saw quite a few new birds and found a very quiet beach that even had some decent waves to ride. There were a few times when our little put-put wouldn’t go farther and I had to get off and walk uphill or through the soft sand while Mike gingerly maneuvered it through the terrain. We finished with a bit of shopping and another beach front meal, not a bad day.
Happily, I finished both “The Falcon of Siam” and “The Guerseny Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” here. Both were really good, highly entertaining books for highly different reasons. I was elated when “The Falcon of Siam” had been picked up at the book exchange no more than an hour after I dropped it off! This is also where I found “Mort” and now guiltily love Terry Pratchett.
