Denver to Grand Junction

Happily, we got in touch with Adam Smith (my cousin) before we left Denver. We were able to grab a quick lunch with him and his girlfriend, Christine, at the Rocky Mountain Diner ( http://www.rockymountaindiner.com/ ). It was so great to see him and catch up. I just wish we could have visited longer, but I am certainly grateful we could meet up! He had to get back to work and we needed to get on the road, but before we left, he recommended going to "the Fiery Furnace" in Arches National Park. We will certainly need to do that!

We made a short stop to Buffalo Bill's grave site, which was at the top of this very windy road in Golden, CO. I feel conflicted about Buffalo Bill-- a great fighter, scout, Soldier, and showman, but my heart aches for the buffalo he killed and the war he fought. A different time and a different outlook, but it was just wrong. I suppose I need to think on this more.

I-70 is just a beautiful drive. This night, we camped along the Colorado River at Island Acres State Park ( http://parks.state.co.us/Parks/jamesmrobbcoloradoriver ). This was the first time on the trip we got to see the Milky Way and a shooting star. It was also our first chance to try out my new REI gear!
