Amazon: Pink Dolphin Day/ Giant Waterlilies/ Volleyball at Esperanza Village

Slept in- long boat ride to the Amazon river from upstream at the lodge. Was burning to a crisp without knowing it until it was too late. Got to part of river where pink and grey dolphins congregate. It was a large expanse, lots of muddy waters (the only kind they have here), except this time with dolphins. With a little goading from our guide, Edson, we all hopped in, back-dived, belly flopped or back dived into the water. In the distance we could see dolphins, so that counts! Later Edson told us that the locals are afraid of dolphins because if they swim with dolphins around, the dolphin will pull them into the water to live with him/her for the rest of their lives. For some reason, Edson didn't swim with us...

The giant Amazonian Lilipads were pretty cool, but the best part of seeing the lilipads was the chicken that our boat driver, Gato, cooked. In a hut sitting on either the floor or an old children's chair, we ate the absolutely best chicken we have eaten in our lives!
