Kaikoura, South Island

We actually spent just a short amount of time in Kaikoura because we needed to pick up our camper van. This was officially our last night sleeping in the back of the station wagon! We were a little sad, but we got over that quickly when we finally got a good night’s sleep. We spent the afternoon with some well needed regrouping, cleaning, laundry, stuff like that. That evening, we went on a kayak tour to see fur seals. Though it was a lot of fun to get out on kayaks in the open ocean, the tour wasn’t all that great. The guide kept forgetting that I was there and when I asked what a bird was, he called a petrel an oystercatcher. The ultimate sin! He doesn’t know who he’s talking to! We didn’t get to see the fur seals very well and could have seen them better by just pulling over to the side of the road. We wish we had time to go whale watching, but you just can’t do everything!
