After a nice breakfast in the historic house on Ft. Riley, we were on our way. Before leaving, we took a brief ride around Ft. Riley. Home of 1st Cav, this historic fort is full of beautiful granite buildings-- no tornado is going to blow THEM away!
Our first stop was Abilene, KS, home of Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Greyhound Hall of Fame. The Ike complex was lovely. The tour of his boyhood house was filled with original pieces and the pictures on the wall showed it was obvious he loved his mother (don't we all love our mothers?!). In the library, there was a painting of all the past presidents lined up in front of the White House. We had fun identifying them all and jogging our memory a bit. Did you know that Arthur was a president? http://www.eisenhower.archives.gov/
After paying our respects at his grave, we crossed the street to the Greyhound all of Fame! There were 2 greyhounds in the lobby that we pet while talking to a lovely lady who explained the history of the sport. Did you know that the greyhound is the only breed of dog that is specifically referenced in the Bible? (Psalm 30:30 King James Version). http://www.greyhoundhalloffame.com/
Kansas is filled with rolling hills, lots of pasture, and a HUGE wind farm. Mike especially liked driving over the hills (much more than MO), because it was a bit of a mystery to see what was over the next hill.
Around 7pm, we arrived to Kathy and Carey Sutvin's house just outside of Colorado Springs. Mike and I both agreed that we could live in this area rather easily. Kathy and Carey were wonderful hosts and even took us out to ice cream! They were still moving in, they opened up their home to us, and they were just lovely to talk with! Thank you, Wendy, for setting this up! Thank you so much, and we would love to link up with you again, Kathy and Carey!
